Wow! What do you say when you look up and see that you’ve accomplished something that you could not visualize yourself completing? Wow is the word and a clear sense of pride describes the feeling and expressions.
In looking at the results of our art classes, you could see this in the faces of both mom and me. Mom’s graphite pencil Magnolia artwork is complete and it looks great!!
Next steps were to finish the project by matting, framing and preparing it for hanging. First the matting…
Because we wanted assistance from Lisa, our wonder Art Instructor, we did this part of our project as a part of our weekly art class in our new favorite store, Hobby Lobby in Frisco, Texas. Our dollars earmarked for our creative ventures were left in the care of this store. Not a bad thing because they have a large selection of matts. Mom picked one with a dark red highlight that would add some color to her purposefully black and white magnolia flower image. On to the frame…
Many many choices. Mom wisely selected a dark walnut frame that would work to bring richness to her black and white artwork.
Lisa helped mom in these choices and in touching up the edges on her magnolia art piece before matting and framing it. We also engaged the framing professional at Hobby Lobby to add a wire hanger to the back of the frame and Mom’s magnolia inspiration was completely transformed into a trophy that could be viewed and enjoyed by many!
Here’s our fellow student Sherry that always amazes us with her oil paintings.
Her eye for detail is trained and we see it on the canvas each week. I got a quick photo of Sherry in her element as we watched over her shoulder.
Thanks again to Lisa for her remarkable yet patient instruction and great friendship. Both Mom and I were truly enriched this summer!
You must see Lisa’s graphite pencil artwork portrait of Will Smith! She also has a time lapsed video there that shows us the steps she took to create this masterpiece. See it at http://www.lachri.com.
